As a destination wedding photographer in Mexico, few experiences are as inspiring as capturing a celebration in a place as culturally rich and visually stunning as Oaxaca de Juárez. Fer and Raúl’s wedding was a vibrant, deeply personal celebration filled with tradition, color, love, and unforgettable flavors. From their heartfelt ceremony to the street parade and artful reception, this was a day that truly honored their roots.

A Ceremony with Soul in Oaxaca’s Iconic Santo Domingo Church

The ceremony took place in the magnificent Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán, one of the most emblematic churches in Mexico. Located in the heart of Oaxaca’s historic center, this Baroque masterpiece features ornate gold-leaf altars, detailed frescoes, and a sacred atmosphere that makes every moment feel monumental.

It was an emotional, intimate ceremony focused entirely on the couple and surrounded by the love of their closest family and friends. As a wedding photographer in Oaxaca, capturing such an iconic location filled with beauty and meaning was a creative privilege.

The Calenda: A Street Parade of Pure Joy

After the ceremony, Fer and Raúl led a traditional Oaxacan calenda, a lively street parade full of music, dancing, mezcal, and joy. Walking hand in hand through the cobblestone streets, surrounded by family, friends, giant puppets, and the sounds of celebration, they brought the heart of Oaxaca to life.

This kind of experience is what makes a Mexican wedding so unique — it’s not just a party, it’s a cultural journey, and for a destination wedding photographer, it’s a dream to document.

Hotel Azul: Art, Design & the Bride’s Favorite Color

The celebration continued at Hotel Azul Oaxaca, a boutique hotel known for its contemporary art and artistic atmosphere. As the name suggests, blue tones are present throughout the space — a detail that perfectly matched the bride’s favorite color.

This is where the couple got ready, where we captured a beautiful first look, and where many of their guests stayed. The rooftop, where the reception took place, was decorated with vibrant florals and traditional Mexican touches that highlighted the venue’s architecture and cultural essence.

As a wedding photographer in Mexico, having such an inspiring and thoughtful setting is the perfect canvas for storytelling through images.

A Night to Remember — Full of Oaxacan Flavor

The night was filled with unforgettable moments: fireworks, music, mezcal shots, dancing, and alebrijes lighting up the space. But one of the absolute highlights was the traditional Oaxacan cuisine.

Fer and Raúl made sure their guests experienced the true flavor of their culture, serving a delicious spread that included mole oaxaqueño, tlayudas, tamales wrapped in banana leaves, memelas, and desserts made with local chocolate and tejate.

Each dish was not just food — it was heritage, memory, and emotion on a plate. For many of their guests, especially those visiting from abroad, it was a unique way to connect with the richness of Mexican tradition.

Thank You for Letting Me Tell Your Story

Fer and Raúl didn’t just celebrate a wedding — they celebrated identity, culture, and the deep love they have for each other and for Oaxaca.

As a Mexico destination wedding photographer, this is the kind of experience that reminds me why I love what I do. It’s not just about beautiful images; it’s about capturing a story that’s alive, meaningful, and full of soul.
